GLEN COVE, NY – Pratt Institute men's soccer routed the Webbies of Webb Institute 10-5, as they claimed the first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory in the program's history.
"For anyone who doesn't think there is scoring in soccer, they should have attended this barn-burner," coach Jonas Worth said.
The Cannoneers got on the board first, with Miles Wright's strike in the 6th minute opening the scoring. In the 20th minute, Michael South would collect his first goal of the season. One minute later, Bryan Shim would continue his goal-scoring streak, registering his fifth of the season. South would strike twice more before the half, completing his hat trick with goals in the 26th and 38th minute, respectively. Jared Rice would also join the goal-scoring party with his first of the season in the 40th minute of play.
The second half began with more of the same, as Bryan Shim notched goals in the 55th and 58th minute, registering his second hat trick of the season. Following Rice's second goal, South would add a fourth to his afternoon, as Pratt set the program record for goals scored in a game.
In goal, Bubby Vernon recorded his second victory of the season, however, Pratt's comfortable lead allowed three different Cannoneers to appear between the pipes.
Not to be lost in the goal-scoring frenzy is the overall play of freshman Jared Rice. Besides his two goals, Rice set up numerous others, adding a team-record five assists for the match.
Up Next: The Cannoneers continue their HVIAC schedule as they welcome the Warriors of Vaughn College to Randall's Island on Thursday. A 9:00pm kickoff is scheduled.
