HVMAC VOLLEYBALL REPORT - WEEK #1

NEW YORK, NY - February 23, 2010 - The Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference released its weekly volleyball report for games from February 15-21.

2010 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT - RESULTS

Semifinal #1 - #1 St. Joseph's 73, #4 Culinary 58

St. Joseph's utilized a 14-4 run at the midway point of the second half to pull away from Culinary and hold on for a 15 point victory.  Justin Gist led the Bears with 27 points while Corey Johnson paced the Steels with a 24 point, 11 rebound double-double.

Semifinal #2 - #3 Vaughn 67, #2 Albany Pharmacy 66 (OT)

Vaughn overcame an 18 percent shooting performance in the opening frame and erased a 19 point second-half deficit to defeat Albany Pharmacy in overtime.  Jason Ramos one of two free throws with 3.5 seconds left for the game winner.  Jihad Cesar led the Warriors with 21 points and Mahdi Mcbahi added a 17 point, 16 rebound double-double.  Mickey Shrivastava led the Panthers with 17 points and Zach Bratek added 16 points before fouling out late in the second half.

Championship - #1 St. Joseph's 78 , #3 Vaughn 62

Vaughn led by five early, but St, Joseph's utilized a 15-4 run to gain the for good, carrying a 37-27 lead at halftime .  The Bears led by as many as 17 with seven minutes remaining and Vaughn went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits, but St. Joseph's went a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line in the final minutes to hold off the Warriors.

Justin Gist led St. Joseph's scoring 27 points and grabbing eight rebounds and was named Tournament MVP.  Jihad Cesar led Vaughn with 22 points and Levar Smith added an 11 point, 14 rebound double-double.  Coach Joseph Cocozello was named 2009-10 HVMAC Coach of the Year in ceremonies after the game.
